A Ghanaian wedding

By Precious Mafadzavana

Every country has different wedding traditions or ceremonies which show how important tradition is, and in Ghana, they have their way of bringing families together.

After 5 years of dating and being good friends since 2016, Acheampong Louisa Tiwaa and Bernard Akyem celebrated their love with a Ghanaian traditional wedding ceremony on the 31st of October 2020.

During the day the bride wore a white dress with a colourful robe wrapped around her upper body. In Ghana, the bride dances her way to her husband during the ceremony opening with no shoes on as the husband waits to receive her. Acheampong was with her bridesmaids who wore blue dresses.
The couple received presents from the bridal team who danced towards them as per tradition. The bridesmaids wore red dresses and the groomsmen wore all white from top to bottom just like the groom.
Acheampong and Bernard became Mr. and Mrs. Akyem with both families surrounding them. Acheampong concluded that “Sometimes when you are not looking for a relationship, that’s when God sends your soul mate. Everything went well during the wedding because l had my man beside me.”
Even though the couple had a traditional wedding they still had a private white wedding on the 1st of November which had very few guests as they were abiding by Covid- 19 regulations.
