Deep in love: The inseparable couple

By Ivy Chibanda

In August 2018, Simba made his intentions clear to the girl he had fallen in love with, Chikomborero, that one day he would marry her. Deep down, Simba knew she was the one, and theirs was an inseparable relationship where they spent every weekend together. Before they knew it, they began planning their future together.

Ten months later, on the 28th of June 2019, Simba proposed to Chikomborero at a dam close by. He had invited a few friends and while sightseeing, Simba asked her to pose for a picture and before she knew it, he was on one knee asking for her hand in marriage.

The couple started preparing for their lobola and wedding and although the lockdown restrictions delayed the events, lobola was paid on the 19th of December 2020 and they wedded on the 22nd of December 2020.

Their wedding was a classic garden wedding held at Pemabwe lodge. They had fallen in love with the beautiful garden there the moment they laid their eyes on that venue. Their wedding colours were mint, navy blue, and gold which complemented the garden colours. To go with the trend of greenery at weddings, they had a beautiful flower backdrop and flowers on their signing table.

The bridesmaids and flower girls were beautifully dressed in nude-gold dresses while the groomsmen looked smart in navy blue suits. The sight of the décor and the bridal team combined was magical.

The wedding day went exactly the way Chikomborero had imagined with her walking down the aisle with Janet Manyowa’s song Zadzisa. The ceremony went well, they recited their vows and they were officially married. Chikomborero couldn’t believe it but she gives all the praises to God.

The most memorable moment for Chiko was her walking down the aisle with her brother and being handed over to her husband.

Given a chance to change anything at her wedding, she would change the catering team and the menu.

As for advice to future brides, Chiko advises them to take their time in planning their weddings. “Go all out because it’s only done once and make sure you enjoy every moment. Be the happiest bride, I know it might be overwhelming but allow yourself to enjoy your beautiful day.”
