Looking back at how they met, Cynthia and Dereck realize the meaning of Isaiah 60:22, “When the time is right, I, the Lord, will make it happen.” Cynthia recalls how reluctant she was to accompany her sister to Kadoma, where her aunt was a Pastor, little did she know that was where she would meet her soon-to-be husband.
After meeting in Kadoma, the couple started dating and after two months, Dereck knew she was the one he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. On the 25th of December 2020, Dereck surprised Cynthia with an engagement dinner at China Gardens. It was a dream come true for Cynthia.
One and a half years later, lobola was paid to the Marume family at an elegant lobola ceremony. From then on, the wedding plans began.
It was on the 24th of December 2022 that Cynthia and Dereck tied the knot. It was a classy wedding ceremony held at green Oasis in Harare. The theme colors were burgundy and emerald and the exquisite décor brought out the colors in an elegant way.
Unlike most weddings, this bridal team was punctual and the wedding began at the slated time, which was 9 am. The bride and her bridesmaid had spent the night at Rainbow Towers and the groom and his groomsmen had slept at the guest house that was at the venue so this made the logistics easier.
It was a beautiful sight as the bride walked down the aisle in her beautiful wedding gown alongside her father.
The marriage officer handled the proceedings well as he joined the two in holy matrimony. The couple read their vows from their vow books and this was the favorite and most memorable part of their day.
After the ceremony, the couple went for their photoshoot as the guests enjoyed their cocktails. The reception was full of life with dances from the bridal team and the guests. Gifts were presented, food was enjoyed and memories were created.
As advice to future brides and grooms, the couple encourages people to work within their budget and ensure all service providers are paid before the wedding to enjoy the wedding fully.
“Don’t plan a wedding relying on relatives to pay for everything for you,” says Cynthia.
“If you can’t afford it, you can opt for a court wedding then years later when you know you can afford it, you can have the wedding of your dreams.”
